This Week In DCTV 7/14/19

Welcome to This Week in DCTV, where the Twisted Cape examines, breaks down, and gives a quick review of all the original shows that DC has released this week. This will run weekly and start on Sunday and end on Saturday, so we catch everything on the CW, Fox, and the DC Universe streaming service. We will eventually be incorporating all of it, including the content from other networks, like Syfy. We’ll also include an average on the week to help determine whether the week was a success. Keep in mind there will be spoilers on a regular basis so read on at your own risk.

Weekly Score (Out of 5) – 4/5

Really strong week from the DC streaming service. Proves itself worth the price and time over and over. Twist of the week is the ridiculous amount of revelations in Swamp Thing this week.

DC Universe

Young Justice: Outsiders – 4/5 – “First Impression”

The Reach are back, terrorizing smalltown America… unless the Outsiders can stop them. SPOILERS – Finally, there is some action! Beast Boy mobilizes his team, named The Outsiders which is geared towards shutting down Granny while being a thorn in the side of the Light, but with a public face. Something that makes it unique is that it’s a young team, that isn’t the League and helps rebrand the heroes. It’s a brilliant move by Gar and it allows a public face to the team while allowing a portion of the team to remain covert. I loved what this episode represented, especially the part at the end where the Anti-Light decide to Gar out of this team to keep that pure. I think it’s a great move and sets up some intriguing plots moving forward.

Swamp Thing– 4/5 – “Brilliant Disguise”

While Maria meets with the shadowy finance group known as the Conclave, Lucilia leads Avery out into the swamp under false pretenses. SPOILERS – Oh man, this show! We got some bombs in this episode. Matt is Avery’s son (which I was suspecting, but never expected)?! The Rot playing in opposition to The Green?! Maria is working around Avery?! Maria knows about Avery’s affair and is working with Lucilla to kill Avery?! Wow. Just wow. And then once we thought Avery was dead having been shot, he drags himself out of the Swamp, and I believe he’ll be the avatar of the Rot like Alec was the avatar of the Green. Brilliant. It would be a higher score if it wasn’t quite so rushed. I’m really hoping that it sticks the landing.
